Galaxy Tab 7.0 ICS to Jelly Beans 4.1.1

Upgrade your Galaxy Tab 3. 7.0″ to the new Jelly Beans 4.1.1

Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 comes with the ICS stock rom 4.0.3, this is currently upgradeable to Jelly Beans 4.1.1 via Kies OTA update from Samsung. However Jelly Beans update is only partially available officially on the Wi-Fi device on selected countries. The 3G version of this update recently leaked from Samsung servers in India for the base firmware P3100DDBLH3 this is just a test release and may still improved when Samsung finally release the official version. If you are too keen try this on your device to experience the performance enhancement offered by Jelly Beans and the Android Project Butter then now is your chance to try it even before it becomes publicly available to the majority of Android folks.

This update requires a very specific version of the firmware P3100DDBLH3 for (GT-P3100) so make sure you have it in your device before flashing the OTA update. If you don’t have it, it’s still possible to upgrade your device by flashing the base firmware first (this will essentially replaced your base firmware so it can be flashed with the OTA update) and then proceed on flashing the OTA update:

OTA Firmware Details:
Android Version: 4.1.1 – JRO03C
PDA: P3100DDBLI1
Country: India (INU)
Build Date: September 8, 2012
Size: 295.2MB

Tools for the upgrade:

1. Odin3 (V1.85) for flashing the base firmware (Grab it from here)

2. The Base Firmware P3100DDBLH3 if your device have different firmware (Grab it from here)

3. The OTA update P3100DDBLI1 to update your device to Jelly Beans 4.1.1 (Grab it from here)

4. USB Drivers for your device (it can be done easily by installing Kies Software from samsung or download the Android SDK from google)

If you have the above requirements then you may now proceed in updating your device. Do take note that we don’t take any responsibility on the outcome of the procedure although we tested it and it successfully worked on our device. There is still a chance that you might bricked your device by following/or failing to follow the instructions posted here. If you are not familiar with this procedure then educate yourself first. So do it at your own risk.

1. The procedure doesn’t require your device to be rooted and rooting your device is not part of this instruction. But if your device is already rooted and you have a running CWM recovery first do a full backup of your device on your external SD so just in case you don’t want the outcome you may still revert to your old stock rom. Backup your data using Kies to keep all your data intact. You may also install the ClockWorkMod Recovery first by following the procedure here.

2. Extract the base firmware P3100DDBLH3 and load it in Odin3 (v1.85) using the PDA tab, if you were able to extract the file properly with this file name P3100DDBLH3_P3100ODDBLH1_P3100DDLG1_HOME.tar.md5 then it means your download is not corrupt and you may proceed to flash the firmware in your device once you load it in Odin properly. Copy the OTA update file 3100DDBLI1 to your external SD card we need to flash it using Recovery mode via CWM.

    Make sure:

  • Re-partition in Odin is not ticked
  • Auto Reboot is ticked
  • F-Reset Time is ticked

3. Restart your device in download mode by pressing (Power + Volume Down) and follow the on screen prompt press (Volume Up) to put it in download mode. Connect your device and make sure that the connection port highlighted in yellow comes up in my case [COM56] then hit on start and flashing will be initiated. After successful flashing you will get a PASS message, you may now disconnect the device and get ready to flash the OTA using recovery method.

Proceed in selecting the OTA update from your SD Card using the Volume Up Down Button and selecting the OTA file by Power Button flashing will start up to the final dialog Patching remaining system files this would take about 10 to 15 minutes time may varies.
